Greater efficiency and transparency through process optimization for Labor LS.

Labor LS is one of the largest independent contract laboratories in Europe, offering microbiological as well as chemical-physical testing of pharmaceutical and medical products. For its more than 600 employees, utmost precision and compliance with regulatory requirements form the foundation of their work. Yet, like many companies in highly regulated industries, Labor LS faced the challenge of making its processes more efficient, modern, and secure. With guidance from Yaveon GmbH, the service laboratory found its solution in Microsoft Business Central and the industry-specific ERP solution Yaveon 365.

With numerous testing and validation requirements, it was essential for Labor LS to implement an ERP system that not only made daily operations more structured but also complied with strict regulatory standards. Daniela Töpperwien, responsible for the ERP project at Labor LS, explains: “We operate in a highly regulated pharmaceutical environment and must meet many requirements, especially regarding product testing. The documentation workload is extensive, and we are strictly bound by proof obligations. Our previous systems had reached their limits.”

Following an extensive market analysis, Labor LS chose Yaveon as its service provider, along with Microsoft Business Central and the ERP solution for the process manufacturing industry Yaveon 365. Ms. Töpperwien and the project team describe this decision as a stroke of luck.

What convinced Labor LS?  
Regarding to user-friendliness and compared to ERP systems from other providers, the Yaveon 365 ERP solution based on Microsoft Business Central allows views to be tailored to the needs of different user groups. This makes both onboarding and day-to-day use significantly easier.

Particularly noteworthy were the professionalism, empathy, and proximity. The Labor LS team found Yaveon’s consulting and communication consistently competent, collaborative, and very pleasant. The geographical proximity to Yaveon’s headquarters in Würzburg also contributed to the decision.

“Of course, there were many topics during the project that required further clarification, but we never once felt left in the dark. Yaveon supported us on equal terms – even when we had to ask the same question several times,” recalls Ms. Töpperwien.

Yaveon’s validation consultants also impressed with their in-depth expertise in highly regulated industries and advised Labor LS on qualification/validation as well as on meeting strict security and data protection standards.

Pharmaceutical industry and the Cloud – do they go together? “Especially during the evaluation phase, there were concerns about the Public Cloud, and we also considered on-premises solutions. However, the intensive exchange with Yaveon answered all key questions about security, GDPR compliance, ISO 27001, and the use of EU servers,” summarizes the project manager at Labor LS. A particular focus of the service laboratory was the qualification of the Azure Cloud and the validation of processes according to GAMP5. Yaveon’s validation consulting provided excellent support, offering both document templates and expert advice throughout the entire process.

During implementation, Labor LS key users gradually learned the new system in intensive training sessions. “We had highly qualified Yaveon contacts who provided comprehensive consulting and training. At times, we even received practical click-by-click guides and were able to draw on the consultants’ extensive expertise in areas such as finance, purchasing, and warehouse management,” says Daniela Töpperwien. Since July 2024, Labor LS has been using the system productively for financial accounting, and since May 2025 for inventory management – and the benefits speak for themselves:

• Security and clarity: Processes are clearly defined and firmly embedded in the system, minimizing potential errors and supporting compliance with regulatory requirements.

• Transparency and efficiency: With the industry-specific ERP solution, Labor LS always maintains an overview of materials and stock levels. This transparency simplifies planning and makes procurement more efficient.

• Flexibility for the future: Microsoft Business Central provides Labor LS with almost unlimited possibilities to meet future requirements and perform analyses at the highest level.

Beyond the successful ERP implementation, Ms. Töpperwien particularly remembers the excellent collaboration.

The combination of professional consulting, intuitive software, and extensive customization options has not only renewed internal processes at Labor LS but also created a foundation for sustainable growth. “We would definitely recommend Yaveon, and Microsoft Business Central has already proven itself. The project was a great collaboration,” summarizes the project lead.
